A new blog...
This blog aims to be a discussion and conversation platform to share ideas, participate in debates and think aloud. It could be a network for those of us in the academy and outside, who are involved in critical research and thinking in teh humanities and social sciences. I think of it as an intellectual conversation, but one that is open for others to read and write. The aim is not to attrack masses of visitors - it's the quality of the content that counts, not the number of visitors - but everyone is welcome to participate. There is a big debate going on in the academy, how critical research can be opened up beyond the gated communities of JSTOR and the theoryworld. This blog is one of the ways to do what we do - namely to think, converse and research - while doing it in public. Oh, and about the name: the blog is called politicaltheorist, but is not limited to professional political theorists. I understand political theory as an interdisciplinary pursuit, not one limited to political science or philosophy departments. What is political about political theory is not its institutional location in the academy, but its object - politics - and its mode of theorizing.
